Review by David Ranew…
It’s like walking to a 50s era diner and dropping some change into a jukebox holding electronic modern technobabel. When this noisegasm hits you it is like pop oldies and punk rock are trying to have a baby. A little bit B52s with Karen O, Gun Party’s debut release Special TV Microwave Computer is a somewhat awkward adventure that makes you move the hips and dance while giving amble excuses to bang your head.
“Brooklyn Stomp“
A little bluesy with dueling waling vocals that true to the name makes us want to stomp.
“Runaway“
The progression to the songs climax with lined with a down, rhythmic, methodical female vocals. It is like revving the car engine in park and getting excited about the road trip.
“Nothing like a Sheep to make you feel like a Wolf“
Wait…do I still have the same album on? Expect the first of many change ups on the cd. This one is where the Elvis zombie picks up a guitar.
“Gotta Go Out“
A slow ballad beginning turns into something reminiscent of a musical. The one has an up and down feel where you expect it to get crunk at any moment, but leave pleasantly subdued.
“Kite Fights“
You remember those midi files from the aol days of the internet and brick cells phones? When this one begins you are wondering who stole my 8 bit Nintendo, but falls nicely into the longest song on the cd. At 6 minutes this one has a lot in it. Our favorite part: The bits where you think you have become the ringmaster of a circus.
“DBV“
Dead Bitch Vagina? After Kite Flights this is the only way to bring you back into the rhythm of the cd. Mostly vocal in the beginning, you are dropped into a heavy guitar with plenty of opportunity to finally sing out all those expletives you whisper. Bang your heads away friends.
“Sheera“
The underlying rift brings you back into a smooth groove. I may just of had an 80s moment…princess of power? Be scared of this chic and remember to dance to this one.
“Possessions“
It is the best produced and the most creative song on the cd. Get ready for a punchy electronic roller coaster ride with a quick rhythmic bass driven ending.
“Wink and a Nod”
Yes, we are happy… Do not let the pleasant whistling fool you, this is a mean song that is reminds us of a teenage rant. The happiest song you will ever hear and leave feeling depressed.
