We have adopted the standard rating system as well as some of our own.
We rate by the standard:
Appearance – what does the beer look like
Scent/Aroma – what does the beer smell like
Taste/Flavor – what does the beer taste like
Body/Mouthfeel – how does the beer feel going down
Our own ratings:
First taste: we start our reviews with a description of the first taste. We believe you can tell the most from a beer with that first refreshing gulp. We’re looking to establish how bold and flavorful the beer starts out and how it retains its flavor throughout the entire drink.
SCALE: Bad to Must Try. BAD, FAIR, GOOD, VERY GOOD or MUST TRY – this is our ‘overall’ scale. The more bold and flavorful and the more a beer retains its flavor the higher we will rate. A big factor here is also how the beer’s taste and feel compare to what the brewery was aiming for when making it. For example, if the brewery intended a bold spicy or bold fruity flavor and we can’t taste the spices or the fruit, that will weigh negatively on its scale (even if we love the beer). ba
We will also include information on proper glassware, food pairings and where you can find the beer locally.
Get it? Got it? Good. Now lets get to drinking.
