We were recently given a track by the brand new Atlanta band Rad Giraffe and reached out to the band to ask a couple questions about it. The track, from an upcoming EP release, is titled “Breezin” and is a laid back indie tune with a strong, spacey beat backbone and free flowing, far reaching lyrics. Its a pretty rad track from a Rad Giraffe. It reminds me of a slow, spaced out Gorillaz song. Steam the song below. You can also take a listen and follow their new releases at their soundcloud page here. Here are a few questions we asked the band. You can also stream and download the previous release from the EP, titled “The Red Line”, below …
B: Why did you start Rad Giraffe? Who is in the band?
RG: I knew for a long time I needed to start a band, but could never decide on a style. I decided to go with a sound that was reminiscent of what Sean Thompson (guitar), James McDaniel (drums), and I (bass) were jamming on at the time. I’ve since switched over to playing the vocals and manning Ableton Live, so William Walker will be handling bass duties.
B: Tell us about the track (Breezin) in your own words.
RG: A mixture of 90s hip hop and some Sesame Street-ish melodies.
B: When is the EP being released? Does it have a title?
RG: Its a four track EP cleverly titled “Giraffe EP”. We’re releasing one song a month, so the entire EP should be out by September.
B: Describe Rad Giraffe’s music to someone who has never heard it.
RG: Its got a heavy early 80s new wave soul vibe like Prince or Hall and Oates… through the lens of a modern influence (Radiohead, Thundercat). It’s funky, melodic, and percussive.
B: Any shows in the works?
RG: We’re in the process of scheduling something for September or October hopefully at the 529.
