MPFC provides support and advocacy for LGBT members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Given the ‘newness’ of LGBT folks being allowed to serve openly, I think this and charities like it are highly important. MPFC and others give a highly needed voice and outlet for their unique struggles and experiences.
Their mission: “Based in Washington, DC, the Military Partners and Families Coalition (MPFC) was founded in 2011 to provide support, resources, education and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military families. We do this by providing online resources, education and training to those who support the military community, outreach and support through safe space online events and local in-person community events, and by connecting with other military support organizations and agencies that share the civic responsibility to support all military families.”

from Adam Keen (though I’d share): I was a military brat myself. My dad was in the Air Force from before I was born until I was 23. I grew up mostly in Europe on military bases and mostly went to DODDS Schools (now called DODEA schools – I went to Bitburg Elementary and Middle Schools in Germany and Feltwell Elementary and RAF Lakenheath High Schools in England – and I lived in Azores, Portugal before I started school) . I think its important to recognize military kids. They often live different types of lives and have different life experiences than the average American kid; moving every 2-3 years and leaving home and friends behind while their parent or parents serve. And even though the service member is stationed in Europe or elsewhere abroad, they’re still often off somewhere serving away from their families. I share this because the graphic above struck me as something needed – recognition for the entire family, because in a way, the entire family serves.
