Ok a little bio: Phylicia Gallmon was born on Nov 20, 1989 in Merced, CA. Family and ‘frieamily’ is incredible important to Phylicia, or Phe as she prefers to be addressed. Phe has two sisters and a little brother she adores. Without family and frieamily, life would be, “come se dice, boring? lol”! “Who am I? Faith, family, friends, food and fun. These are the things that drive and motivate Phylicia or Phe as she is known by these days.“
Phylicia may have been born in California but was raised in Atlanta, GA. Her only tie to California is her birth certificate, and she considers herself an ATLIEN. Being raised in Atlanta culture has really helped mold her as a creative person and all around hustler.
“Atlanta is all about the grind and making a way out of no way” Phe expressed. I really agree with her thought that innovation and creativity drives this city. “You see it in the streets. You hear it in the music. You taste it in the food. You feel it in the air.” No wonder Phe was sucked into it all more and more each day.
You can catch Phe at a restaurant trying the taste of at Atlanta, or at an open mic, or a music showcase, or a concert supporting local and up and coming artist who are trying to break out into the Atlanta music scene. It’s no surprise to find Phe at an art show finding inspiration for nail designs and nail art or on someone’s dance floor twerking because twerk is life according to her.
In a nutshell, she is all over the place but would not have it any other way. “This biography has been so hard. To answer who I am or categorize myself is difficult for me considering I am still trying to figure it out. I’m a nail artist, a food lover, a music feign, a twerker, a friend, a sister, a creative and so much more. Each day brings a new challenge, lesson and blessing. I for one am just happy to be here to enjoy the ride.”
Over dinner on one of the craziest nights in the Mexican restaurant business, National Margarita Night, we sat down to share some grub, some drinks and some words:
B: Phylicia, you have an amazing energy that just brings people together! How did the journey begin?
I believe it has a lot to do with me being the middle child and very active in my community. My mother raised us on her own and to help occupy our time to keep us out of trouble, she signed us up for anything she could. I was a competitive cheerleader, dancer, girl scout, volunteer camp counselor, peer mediator, in the band and on the debate team just to name a few. LOL, but seriously we were ridiculously busy. So that allotted me to meet a lot of people from many different walks. Hence my people-ly skills (lol I just made that up).
B: Phe_TV ? Why the Instagram name? What is your big plan?
So people have always found me funny or whatever. I was that student that got in trouble for dry humor and snide remarks that test my teachers’ intellect. All my life people have said I needed my own show. Initially my name was phe_phenomenon, but Phe_TV was so catchy and available so I ran with it. When you really think about it though, social media is just that. Your own TV show or scrapbook that you make readily available to the public. Different frames of our lives that we share. If Instagram had a button where you could just play and stream all of the post, everyone’s would literally be a show. Mine is kind of all over the place though. I’m like a jack of all trades so to speak. Anything I want to do, I make it happen. Right now, my focus is nails, building a personality for myself and connecting people.
B: What do you have your hands in? It’s seems wherever I look or wherever I go in the city, you are there!
I am just out here supporting good vibes and dope artists. I am very supportive and active in the lives of those I see something in. That’s why I’m always on the scene. I know how important it is to have people there to cheer you on and be there to support you through your dreams. I guess that’s the cheerleader and sister in me. My nails are my means of silently expressing myself and being creative. I also do a podcast that helps me to vent and talk junk about the masses with my friends called “An excuse to have fun”. I’m really just out here doing what I want to do and seeing what becomes of it if anything. If nothing else, I’ve been meeting some amazing people and experiencing some pretty great opportunities along the way.
B: How did you get involved in the Atlanta music scene?
Music has always been a big part of my life. It sets the mood and soundtrack for my day to day. But more specifically for myself, I was in a band most of my life. I played the flute and pichallo. SO I’ve always been in tune with music and sounds and noise and things that stimulate my mental and body through sounds. I was a dancer as well so that coincides as well. But what really got me more into music was one of the guys I was dating. He really introduced me to the music scene as an adult. I’m the type that’s all about her man, and he was into the music scene heavy so he really introduced me to a lot of indie artist and I saw soooo much energy and potential that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Atlanta is the home of so much talent especially musically. That is undisputed and I feel so privileged to have been around to witness so many amazing creatives in their prime!
B: Tell us what you do! Nails, promotions, management, hosting?
I do nails of course. I am mobile. Currently working on getting a mobile office (not my car. Fingers crossed). My pages promote anything and anybody I believe in. I like to show my support to those I see that are really doing their thing and making their own way. It is so important for us to support each other, even if not asked. I live for good vibes, good music, good energy and creatives, and anyone who crosses paths with me, will get to experience just that!
If you are looking for a genuine human being that knows and loves this city and everything that it has to offer, Phylicia is your girl! I love her energy!!!
