We were sent some info on this band. I have not had a chance to take a good listen but wanted to get this post up in advance of the show on Thursday. Shadowgraphs (Charlotte, NC) have been getting a ton of positive press attention lately; they have a breezy, easy flowing, somewhat psychedelic sound. Take a listen to their new album “Venomous Blossoms” as well as their 2016 EP “Midnight Tea” below. And be sure to check them out this Thursday at Mammal Gallery if you’re available (RSVP and DETAILS HERE). Like the band on FaCeBooK here.
A message from the band about “Venomous Blossoms” – “Released April 2017: This record was recorded and written in Bryan’s Home Studio onto 2 inch 24 track tape by Bryan Olson and Wils Glade. Ethan, our bass player, and Cody, our drummer, came over to record on multiple tracks while also laying down some more instruments here and there. We also had some of our local friends from other bands incl. Bryan’s brother play percussion and other instruments on some of the songs.
After mixing the last record, Bryan and I were really interested into recording everything, doing some rough mixes, but then handing the tape over to someone we trusted for mixing to learn and just see what happens. The tape was then taken down to Chase Park Transduction Studio (Animal Collective “Merriweather Post Pavillion”, Deerhunter, Toro y Moi) to be mixed by Drew Vandenberg(who mixed “Underneath the Pine” by Toro y Moi). The studio is located in Athens, GA. We mixed down to ½ inch tape and then shipped the tapes off to Telegraph Mastering in Portland, OR for mastering.
For this album Bryan and I really wanted to push the “genre” in a bunch of directions for fun. We feel like a lot of our favorite albums are very diverse sounding from song to song, so that is what we were going for with this one. Also, Interstellar was actually the first song that Bryan and I ever wrote together but then got buried in the rest of the songs we were working on for our first EP, so we were super excited to revisit it for this album.”
