Nerds! Hall patrols! Cross-dressing football players! All the things you’d expect to see at a Wes Anderson/Tim Burton prom, only at the Highland Inn Ballroom, and performed by Stokeswood. As you can see in the below video of the Bloodplums, some secrets are meant to be shared… This was a ‘freak’ prom show, but the show must go on and so it did…
This was my second time seeing Stokeswood, and it got me even more pumped than ever about these guys. They put on an awesome show, and have a natural blend of synths and acoustic guitars, demonstrating the band’s sensibility. Check these videos out to get more of an idea of what I mean:
Romeo Spike started the night by spiking everyone’s drink with a funky fiasco of groovin’ blues and bombastic interludes. I liked this band a lot, because their singer/keys player was really good, and because the band as a whole is able to keep songs going almost as stories, keeping you tied in while rocking out. Here is the second half of their song Rose Garden off of their upcoming EP.
Last to go on were the Bloodplums, as the Queens stuck in the footballer’s bodies. Their distinctive sound of punk rock scared all the girls away, and pissed all the dudes off. They even gave me a Dropkick Murphys sound, but be your own judge and see the video here:
