I first learned of this group on The Colbert Report. Colbert recently had Sister Rosemary on his show to talk about her group, how she was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the WORLD for 2014 and to talk about the recent kidnappings in Nigeria (http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/14/world/africa/nigeria-fear-and-school/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2). Her group is helping young girls in Uganda avoid the same fate as the girls in Nigeria by providing schools, craft making skills and an online forum to sell their craft products. They make unique hand bags and bracelets among other items. Each item’s sales go right into the pocket of the young African girl that made it; and a little goes to help fund the schools and provide help to the communities these young girls live in. It sounds like an amazing group with an amazing mission…to help young African woman empower themselves and earn a living. The videos below are from their website at http://www.sistersunited.com/.
You can help them out by buying a handbag or by donating at http://www.prosforafrica.com/
