album review by David Ranew…
Qurious‘ album “Void Vanishing” is a collaborative of hip-hop producer Mike Netland and vocalist Catherine Quesenberry. The album is a transcending wave of ambient mood and uplifting vocals. We found it best listened to when attempting to chill or for long drives with the bass a bit higher than usual.
The ethereal and angelic uplifting surrounds of the first track reminded me of the hypnotic drone of a meditation bowl. A trend that continued throughout the album, by the second track I got the faint impression of a Sigur Ros tune. But, by the time the 3rd and 4th tracks start, the beats begin to make their presence known. Vocals throughout the album are lofty, airy, light, and cling nicely to the beats dropped.
I kept this album in my car radio for a month alternating between the tunes on 88.5 and “Void Vanishing”. Each time I hit the cd button I felt my mood lighten and could almost picture myself climbing a spiral of battle beats and vocal escalators. I suggest finding a comfy couch and listening to this one. In one word I could describe it as chill, but not something you put on to fall asleep to. The album is uplifting and the voice beat combo mesh perfectly into a blend of ambient noise all the way to digitally honed thumps.
