Beatlanta wanted to turn ya’ll onto Besides Daniel. I came across them a few months back while putting together our band section and I found them meticulously brilliant. Their lyrics are simple yet profound and bottomless. The melodies they create are not only suitable but faultless in their intention, dark in style but uplifting by nature. The vocals are a perfect fit crooning along with the unsurpassable and shadowy melodies with appropriate and fitting tone. In the downtrodden spirit of Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse and Damien Rice, Besides Daniel touches on some of life’s most depressing aspects and moods while managing to tell a good story and lift your psyche. They use a variety of instruments ranging from violins to glockenspiels to banjos mixing an awesome blend of folk and acoustic indie rock. Besides Daniel is Danny Brewer – acoustic guitar, vocals; Susanne O’Day – vocals, keys, glockenspiel; Aaron Schorch – drums & melodica; Emory Goocher – banjo; Jeremiah Borrego – bass
I particularly like the songs The Field (you can see the video below) and Magellan (both found on Besides Daniel’s Myspace Page); Danny Brewer represents himself as an amazing and melodical vocalist and manages to touch your subconscience in ways many cannot. Some subject matter is depressing to one’s soul and listening to Besides Daniel touches on that realm of life in extraordinary and wonderous ways; all while keeping you acutely aware and sincere of your mental state. I recommend Besides Daniel when you are in a philosophical and hollow space; when you’re prepared to figure things out about life and the human disposition. They create music for intellegent and aware minds and I advocate listening to Besides Daniel.

(Bio from myspace) Besides Daniel is an indie-folk band from Atlanta. Aiming to inspire beauty, truth, and creativity, Besides Daniel writes songs about love, faith, daydreams, and adventure. These songs may reflect the musical influences of Bob Dylan, Iron & Wine, Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens and Conor Oberst.
The members of Besides Daniel are singer-songwriter Danny Brewer (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Susanne O’Day (vocals, keys, glockenspiel, melodica).
‘I am the Fall, You are the Spring,’ the most recent album, was released independently by Besides Daniel in 2007. The album offers a humble blend of acoustic instruments held together by a raw, earnest voice evoking feelings of both hope and reflection.
Besides Daniel is currently recording a 5 track EP that will be released in May 2009.
Thanks for reading and listening. We hope you come back for more!

William, come inside.
There is no need to hide.
We’ve got to help him take these pills.
He has a zest for life that will help him now.
And you must remain strong for William’s sake somehow.
Mrs. Andrews, there is no need to cry.
Mrs. Andrews, please sign this dotted line.
This can’t be happening, his life has just begun.
He picked me flowers last night, my only son.
Dirty blue jeans, thin in the knees
Striped cotton shirts and picked lilies.

It Will All Come to Get Her
So what on earth are you waiting on
And what in this world do you call yourself
Just put your hand out the window and try to relax
Because once this is over I’ll never come back
Once this is over then I will be missing in action
Everyone’s waiting for something to happen
But we’ll never find this place again
Well you should really freak out
Because it helps sometimes
When you’re lying on your back in the middle of a field
You know one day we’ll wake up
It will all be fine
Put your life on hold ’til it becomes real
You try not to try as you’re flicking your cigarette out of the window
Well popping your bubble might reveal some trouble
We’ll never be here again, no.
No, no, no.
That’s okay.
I’ll do it myself.
Just keep your money in your pocket.
I’m here to help you out.
I wanna see you smile so big that it makes me laugh
Keep telling knock knock jokes ’til I look just like you

There is an ashtray at the corner of Highland and North
Discarded remnants maybe this is all the filters are for
Took flight from the fingers of jaded drivers and sailed out their doors
Perhaps I can bag them and sell them back too convenience stores
Just wrap us up in your arms
Let all this world die though we live
We’ll synchronize our alarms
So everything is cohesive
There is a creature sneaking a peak at my garbage at night
He pushes over all of the barrels to see what’s inside
Perhaps one day I’ll catch him in the act and he will be surprised
He’ll ask me to retreat back into my house and bid him goodnight
Steeples are raised very high
Little white lines slicing blue air
They symbolize love crucified
Reminds me of all that He chose to bear
There is a Tailor in my town who I sometimes see
I ask him to help me, nothing fits right, what does this mean?
He stretches my arms out, measures my chest, and smiles graciously.
“Oh, out with it, Tailor! Is it my garments or is it just me?”
I am the wheat of my Lord
I will be ground by the teeth of beasts
Made into flour or more
Baked into bread for my love to eat
