Andy Grammer is EVERYWHERE right now! From The Good Parts Tour to the radio to the grocery store music to performing and coaching contestants on the new season of American Idol. If you can’t recall who Andy Grammer is, I know you will recognize his hit song “Honey, I’m Good,” ,which has had over 76 million views on YouTube. Andy is a down-to-earth musician with skills in vocals, guitar, piano and several other instruments. It’s no surprise that Andy has built a career for himself in the music industry. I had the opportunity to chat with Andy about his new album “The Good Parts”, about being a new parent and a little about life.
The Interview:
B: ” The Good Parts”, what was the inspiration for this album?
About a year ago on my birthday, I got together with friends and reminisced about my mom. I really missed her. We sat around and told stories about her. She passed away 9 years ago, and she meant a great deal to me. It was great to share stories and get to the deeper convo, the “Good Stuff”.
B: What is Your favorite song on this album?
People always ask me that and I honestly love them all. To be honest, I wrote 115 songs before picking these 13 to be on the album. When I think about this tour, I am so excited! I was just waiting for the first date of the tour. I know this is going to be so fun. A career highlight. But if I have to pick one song I would say, “Civil War”.
B: How has having a father with a successful career in music influenced your career?
Watching somebody do it, made it seem normal. I was really lucky. This seemed really do-able.
B: How is it being a new parent on tour with your daughter Louisiana? How has life changed?
Having Louisiana makes everything richer. You can hear her influence all over the album. We are still figuring out the piece of touring with a baby but it makes this a super inspired place.
B: Bahá’í Faith? Tell me more!
Both of my parents have always been Bahá’í. The Bahá’í faith believes that there is 1 God and that all major religions are the same. I have studied all different religions, At the end of the day the thought is how to feed the soul.
B: Why did you decide to sign with S-Curve?
I had a bunch of offers at the time. I really like this label. I believed that they would stick with me and not just push one album.
B: Where is home now?
I’m located in L.A.
B: You were discovered in 2009. Most would say your music career is “young”.
I have a way I want to be. Less of trying to be.
B: What are your pre-show rituals?
We mostly do vocal warm-ups. We make a lot of weird noises. It often sounds like animals are dying backstage.
I had the pleasure of attending Andy Grammer’s show at the Variety Playhouse on April 6th with my own mom. We had amazing time. The talent that Andy and his entire group has is undefinable. For a sold out show, packed to the 1,000 max capacity at the Variety Playhouse, every person in the audience was engaged and singing the entire time!
