This weeks ‘Song of the Week’ is ‘Headrush’ by Surrogates..
Lyrics:
The change of opinion The common respect that we share Has blurred in my vision So you’ve given up on yourself You have always disappointed me so well Not a bone of trust, no Your words have lost their weight Mutual shame
Fire My soul is on fire Did you get what you wanted? That’s a ‘no’ What you wanted you wasted it Liar You’re a goddamn lair Did you get what you wanted? That’s a ‘no’ What you wanted you wasted it
Ooo take that inhale And hold your breath till you are well Problems will surely fix themselves
Fire My soul is on fire Did you get what you wanted? That’s a ‘no’ What you wanted you wasted it Liar You’re a goddamn lair Did you get what you wanted? That’s a ‘no’ What you wanted (x6) You wanted this
And sometimes you come And sometimes you go away Its another mistake Its a circle of rage (x2)
Is this your head rush? Is this your haze? Is this the bed that you have made? Is this the easier way?
About the song from vocalist Haseena Peera:
This song is about a failing relationship between best friends from the perspective of only one of them. This is a song about letting a person go from my life. It is also about how one friend is coping with the split with marijuana, while the other is in a deep state of depression and anger and dealing with their life with marijuana. I focused on the hypocrisry of myself (the friend letting go) and my need for marijuana (fire) to relax from the stress of separating myself from a dear friend, but viewing the other as a zombie to drugs, destroying themselves by smoking more than me, and heading in a swirl of depression from their own problems; problems that kept them from seeing that I was drifting away.
