Recently I caught local underground phenom Zeb and the Contortionists at the infamous Ponybones’ house/venue by the Penitentiary on McDonough, aptly named the Jailhouse. The bill for the night was Zeb, Cornelius(out of town meditation-rock), Ghost to Falco(a really good out of town one man band who used samples and keyboards), Ponybones plus the Ponyjam and Ladislaus. I’ve posted some pictures of the local bands who went on and even have some video of the out of towners. But I really wanted to focus on Zeb. Zeb and the contortionists is a one man group despite the plural name. Sometimes he writes his songs half an hour before he plays them. This night he brought a tape recorder on which he’d recorder percussive loops on that sounded somewhat like banging pots and pans. Over this he sang and played a sad acoustic guitar.
Zeb usually plays with bands like PonyBones and Hurricanes of Love. They have a great scene going on, occasionally playing sets on a traintrack under a tunnel. If you look back through our YouTube video catalog, you can see a Hurricanes of Love video that was filmed there. Zeb is constantly playing shows in Atlanta with local and out of town bands, so if you want to see him check out his myspace at http://www.myspace.com/zebandthecontortionists. Check out some videos and pictures below and show Zeb some support as he continues his musical journey.
