13 Day Mission
13 Day Mission is one of my favorite bands active in the Atl right now. I first heard them for the first time at the Stokeswood cd release show a few months back. I only made if for the last song, which I watched turn into a 10 minute mammoth of instrumental bliss; I was an immediate fan without ever hearing any of their other songs. They play an amazing brand of progressive, instrumental music in which one can find many outlets. Brett from the band had this to say about 13 Day Mission and their goals into the future…13DM plans on continuing to excel in hard grooves, mathy breakdowns, and propulsive dynamics with swarms of effects laden psychedelic bliss. 13DM allows us to really hone in on our creative juices and it has always been a goal for us to push each others limits musically. Keeps the stress of real life down…wow, thats a loaded answer dude, and I fucking love it. I think it describes ya’ll perfectly.
Here is a video from the show….13 Day Mission live at Wonderroot, Saturday, August 1st, 2009….
13DM said they felt good about the Wonderroot show and liked the nice mix of bands. I asked them how they felt about Wonderroot (which beatlanta thinks is great) and what Wonderroot is doing in the community…I think Wonderroot is a great organization. Every time I have had to personally deal with them they have been fantastic, very easy to work with, and just all around good people. We really like what they are offering the local community and plan to continue supporting them any way we can.

Brett from the band added this about the tour…Coming up this month, August 2009, we are going to be going on tour with our last show being the 2 man band festival in Grand Rapids called Fes2val (http://www.myspace.com/fes2val). Once we get back we have a couple of shows around Atlanta, we’ll be hitting our sister states occasionally, and trying to finish planning the first Hijacking Music Festival to be held sometime in December. This HJM Fest will feature all of the HJM bands, a few other locals, winter ales from 3 of Georgias top beer brewery’s, Artwork from some of Atlantas best local artists, and a slew of other things. To tie it all together we will be releasing the first Hijacking Music Christmas CD at the festival.
I ended the interview by asking Brett what he was listening to lately…That is a really long list, but for those who are interested in seeking out some incredible music, check out Cynic and Animals As Leaders.
