Despite all the prophecies of chaos, crime and drug abuse going up Colorado seems to be showing positive signs since the legalization of recreational pot 6 months ago. A recent article from Fortune.com cites several key points from the organization NORML (http://norml.org/). The key points among them being that there has actually been a drop in crime, a drop in unemployment and legalization is actually showing signs of binding communities and businesses together, rather than forcing non-pot related businesses out of areas that feature pot shops. Also, the state has raised a ton of money from the taxes.
While it is too early (as the article mentions) to relate crime and unemployment statistics to the pot industry, the early signs are promising. If things keep going like they are going now, the great experiment in recreational pot legalization is looking promising. Hopefully we start to see the STONE age pot laws featured in this country start to fall like dominoes.
