When I think about the name to know on the Indie music scene, I think of Antstrumentalz. ” Antstrumentalz is well known for his encyclopedic knowledge of Hip Hop, dance, electronic, house, soul, funk, disco, boogie, rare groove, and old school music. If you ever have a music question Antstrumentalz is the DJ to call to get your answer. Many refer to him as ‘The Knowledge’ and many others think of him as ‘The Music Oracle.”
Antstrumentalz has become a Music Producer with diversity and influence that I can’t begin to put in to words. I had the pleasure of interviewing Antstrumentalz…
B: When did you know that music was your path? How did you come up with the stage name Antstrumentalz?
“I didn’t know that music was my path until I went to Art Institute right after high school. I was twelve when I knew that music was my passion and that I wanted to do music. I first wanted to be astronaut. That quickly changed to wanting to be a professional skate boarded. The name Antstrumentalz was inspired by DJ Jamad when were talking about doing a project together. DJ Jamad does these projects called Afromentals. The name Antstrumentalz developed when we decided to do remixes using old songs and my beats. Before I was a professional DJ, I made beats and used my producer name “Ant-Money.” DJ Jamad has been a huge influence in my music and he has definitely been a mentor for me.”

B: What is your favorite genre or style of music that you listen to and make?
“I don’t have one. My mood is what determines what I listen to. I’m not a big fan of main stream Pop or country. But anything else, I’m pretty much in it. The genre that I love to make the most is Hip Hop because that is the genre I was raised on and have always been in it,”
B: Who do you consider your most inspirational mentor and why?
“I can’t say that there is just one mentor. My inspiration comes from nature, relationships, life, trial and error. All the greats have inspired me, Dre, T.I., Pharell, Timberland, etc…”
B: DJ. A limiting title that comes no where close in embodying all that you have accomplished. What moment are you most proud of?
“Once I partnered up with Translee as a his DJ and directly in production. This partnership has brought much progress in my music career, and I have learned a lot from Translee’s label DNC, Digital Native Culture. “

B:In your role you work with many artists and businesses. Who is the person that keeps you pushing for the goal?
“I have to say Translee. We have business ties. But there’s a bunch of dudes that I would like to take with me.”
B: Tell us about some of the relationships that you have built. Who ? Where do you see this going?
“I have a very good relation with DBSC, Dirty Boy Social Club. The relationships with DBSC keeps my DJ career active. My relationships with venue owners has always helped. When a DJ is needed, the owner goes to me directly instead of contacting a promoter.”
B: What’s next for Antstrumentalz? What does 2017 have in store?
“More production. More Mixtapes. I’m gearing more towards radio and music festivals as a DJ.”
