Press Release: (Atlanta, GA) — ‘Reading With A Rapper’ (RWAR) continues to bring culture to the classroom by presenting its innovative academic program with a pop-up demonstration for 100+ 5th graders at College Park Elementary (2075 Princeton Ave, College Park, GA 30337) – Friday, February 21, 2020 from 12pm-2pm. College Park Elementary, led by Dr. Maisha N. Otway, invites RWAR and recording artist, producer and actor Protéjay to interact with their students for a one-day experience that will engage their learners in highly effective ELA teaching strategies with an infusion of relevant lyrics. All while leveraging innovative technology the programing also seeks to optimistically changing their perspective on how young scholars learn and strengthen their literary skills.
Led by co-founders Jarren Small and Douglas Johnson, Reading With A Rapper (based in Houston, TX) was created to relate English Language Arts (ELA) metrics and academics with socially conscious lyrics, video content and technology. Through this platform we can relate and uplift our youth socially and academically to skills necessary to thrive in Secondary and Collegiate Level courses. A RWAR demonstration or “pop up” encompass a short version of the RWAR curriculum (designed to be an 8-week after school course), giving students and educators a chance to experience RWAR before adopting the program. RWAR has worked with popular artists including national recording artist Meek Mill, Maxo Kream, Killa Kyleon, AJ McQueen and more! This will also be RWAR’s first time interfacing with students in the state of Georgia.
“We are enthusiastic for College Park Elementary to be the first Georgia campus that RWAR interfaces,” says RWAR co-founder Douglas Johnson. “Our program is something that students around the world can benefit from and each school we touch brings us one step closer to that goal.”
RWAR has already toured the City of Houston as well as New Orleans, visiting several grade schools with a series of pop-ups and installations, demonstrating just how effective the curriculum (created by certified educators) is and how it’s impacting students as early as 3rd grade – reaching over 20,000 elementary, middle and high school students! The full RWAR 8-week course is currently placed in Aldine ISD (Houston), the first school district to adopt the program.
Protéjay, is a triple threat out of Atlanta and is taking the world by storm. His role as an actor/rapper/producer while carrying the culture of Atlanta makes him effortlessly versatile. During the visit with College Park Elementary, RWAR will incorporate his music into the demonstration followed by a surprise reveal of Protéjay’s presence. Protéjay will then lead a portion of the demonstration using his own music and lyrics from his new records Defined and Still Miss You, as well as sit with RWAR co-founders Jarren Small and Douglas Johnson for a Q&A.
We invite the media to join us at College Park Elementary. For more information go to www.readingwitharapper.com/popup. For any inquiries including media opportunities, please contact Jordan Lee Harris by email pr@legendsdolive.com or phone (281) 935-8339.
ABOUT READING WITH A RAPPER
Reading With A Rapper teaches and strengthens literacy skills through rap lyrics, core English Language Arts (ELA) metrics, content and technology. RWAR connects literary and musical arts directly to the classroom by exposing mainstream and rising artists to students (as early as 3rd grade) and correlating reading and writing – essentially meeting students “where they are” through a medium they can relate to. Because music is powerful and captivating, educators and artists can use RWAR as a tool to enrich students while fusing education.
