Beatlanta recently had a show with the Reklein, Tay0, R_Garcia and Threv all laying down some computer based design music. I was really looking forward to this show and it did not disappoint. The guys even brought out a projector for some super cool mood setting visuals.
Part 1 of our interview with all the artists…
cont below…
Tay0 took the stage first; the video below really says it all. Tay0 mixes a little lighter beats than the other artists mixing in a lot of spacey sounds…not too much density and less of an industrial feel and instead more of a hint of funk or hip-hop. What I enjoyed most were the more ambient, spacey songs (see Jodrell Bank on his myspace page). The video below is a good example of that as well….take a look…its pretty awesome (and a shout to Chris Fuller from beatlanta for some sweet editing)….
You can see more pics of Tay0 at beatlanta’a picture section.
Threv was amazing. He used a lot of ambient, more spacey sounds as well but added in a ton of effects and niches. He creates sounds that really could make you get up or dance or sit on a couch and melt; it really depends on your mood and the atmosphere. There are a couple videos below and you can learn a lot about Threv, if you haven’t already with the interview above and part 2 below. He’s been in some pretty cool bands over the years, including The Secret Life, and he is currently a DJ for the GA Tech radio station. Videos…

part 2 of interview with all the artists…
R_Garcia uses a more drum beat based approach to computer music and makes use of a drum machine and hip-hop beats. He also picked up a guitar and had a pedal board with him to add in some guitar effects. He definitely made dance music and was headed out on a mini-tour of some regional clubs and venues the day after the show. Click his name above to be taken to his website where you can find his more than 10 albums, 5 of which are available for FREE. Check back soon for beatlanta’s review of his albums.
Reklein is an Atlanta experimental, electronic IDM duo that have a really unique sound and a noteworthy style. I like the dynamic created by having two individuals working the computers at a time…not something you find too often in the genre. Reklein has a fair amount of industrial sounds and beats and are amazing at it but when they do the ambient thing, thats when they really excel for me. I like their grandiose songs, or parts of some songs, that sound like the score to an epic movie. Each song has some segments of density and ambience and it makes for a real diverse, but free flowing sound. You can read about Reklein and these other artists, including the album review here.
