B: Who are the members of Siberia My Sweet?

Siberia My Sweet: We’ve had revolving members up until a little over a year ago. Since then, we’ve got our darling drummer Alec Irvin in addition to Kelly Andrews – lead vocals/rhythm guitar, Luci Harrell, lead guitar and Erin Sellers – keys and vocals.

B: What is Siberia My Sweet all about?

Embracing our depression and dancing to it.

B: When did you form, what is the history behind the band?

Formed in 2005 but our sound is SO DIFFERENT now than it was then. Basically our entire history, up until a year ago, has been a journey to get to where we are now. For us, right now, history is history….

B: What does the name Siberia My Sweet mean?

We always loved the word and idea of the region Siberia, people typically think this as negative, but to us it’s beauty. Anyhow, combine what could be considered negative, with a term of endearment and ya get Siberia My Sweet.

B: What are the names of the records you’ve done?

Actually just one “record” – entitled “Alone” – just came out in December.

B: Any new albums coming out?

We continue working on new and old tunes – mixes of remixes, etcetera…always recording, and re-recording….hopefully in another year we’ll have something new. Just in time for Christmas so that our second album can be Christmas gifts just like our last record.

B: Can you tell us anything about it?

Well, Luci just did a re-mix of our title track “Alone” – kind of a Crystal Castles version. Very cool, we may or may not release it though…we may just dance to it… all “alone” – right now we’re writing, experimenting with sounds and will just see where it goes…

B: Your songs have a very electro and dance vibe to them, where did that sound come from?

We wanted to create concrete eighties inspired dance shells for our tunes to sit in. The idea was to contrast the ambience with dynamics, without going too electro.

B: What is your take on the state of the music industry right now?

In transition….um, everything is changing right now based on marketing, distribution and pr and that’s a good and a bad thing. We have a new wave of indie distribution happening right now, and that’s awesome! Cause it’s like a second phase of DIY.

B: Where all have played and do you have any places that you especially enjoyed playing in?

One time we played a party in Alpharetta with soccer mom’s and three year olds running around, that was fun! We’ve done stuff in the southeast and played south-by-southwest once….another time we went to Tampa for like five days but we only played a thirty minute set. The rest of the time we wasted money and danced a lot, but we like it. In town we enjoy playing Drunken Unicorn, Vinyl, Star Bar – we used to play Lenny’s but we’re NEVER playing there again! 😉

B: Why is music important to you?

Why is eating important to you? No really, it’s not a choice, we love our music – keeps us sane.

B: If you had one wish as the band Siberia My Sweet collectively, what would it be?

To get a BC Powder endorsement but they don’t give em out, we’ve checked. Other than that, if we had just one wish it would be for the band to be self sustainable, do this full-time, to receptive fans, play, play, play and dance, dance, dance.

B: Anything you want to say to the fans?

We really really really love all the cyberlove but people need to get out of their house and support local shows – and not just ours. We love all our musician buddies but we love normal people too!
