This was my first time seeing the locally famed 3 piece that is the Long Shadows. Their reputation preceded them and they lived up to it. The songs are jangley post-punk offerings from 3 locally well known musicians. (The first band I ever covered for beatlanta was KidFireDanger!, a side project of Long Shadows drummer Will Raines, at Wonderroot. They were playing with the North Trolls. I’m not sure but that may have been there one and only show. I never heard from them again. It also featured James Oh from the N.E.C. – I liked them.) The Long Shadows record pop driven garage tunes that have been called folk punk. The introspective lyrics shrieked by raspy and prominent vocals mix with sometimes static and often creeping guitar riffs to create an eclectic and embracing sound. Its homey yet exciting. Sometimes you wanna dance. Sometimes not.
