“4 Stage. 4 Crews. 1 Winner.” I couldn’t have describe the Red Bull Culture Clash 2017 better myself!
Let’s talk semantics for a brief moment. A sold out show with four different teams of talented and tenured individuals brought together in one building to bring the music to the people through a friendly competition. With three rounds and four battling teams, you know there can only be one winner. And the winner was, drum roll please, Unruly featuring Popcaan.
By now you know I’m going to tell you all about “MY” Red Bull Culture Clash experience. So, I arrived at the end of a small street to 787 Windsor (the venue) around 7:30 p.m. The crowd had not arrived yet as the music was to start sharply at 8:45 p.m. I walked up to the Media tent check-in and handed the friendly red-head my ID. No issues, super easy process. I even had a plus one that hadn’t arrived yet and the staff was very accommodating. I asked if there was anything that I should know, and I was told “No”. I was greeted by a lady handing out a ticket for merch and a lady handing out a small foam finger for a free Red Bull beverage.
I walked into the battle space around 7:50 p.m. and there were a few people there. It was nice to get a peek at the arena before the battling began. I asked security where I was supposed to go and they weren’t sure. I found my way to the Media entry. It wasn’t until 8:50 p.m. before I knew that there was an Red Bull open bar and an area where Adidas gear was given out back stage. Once I discovered the facilities, I was pleasantly surprised! Great, clean restrooms and lounge.
The battle was amazing and everyone involved and the attendees had an amazing time! From Ludacris to Pastor Troy to Jermaine Dupri all gracing the stage – they were pretty cool back stage too. I was able to spend some time at each stage and hangout with everyone from the artists to the media. Overall, great time and I plan to explore Red Bull Culture Clash 2018!
