We recently hosted Ricer and The Holland Dutch at the beatlanta house and I have to say it was one badass show. I also have to say that I knew very little about both of these bands and from the moment that The Holland Dutch even started to sound check, I knew we were in for a killer night. The Holland Dutch took the stage first at about 10:15 and immediately funked it up. What I love about them is how much they accomplish with the traditional 4 person lineup as well as their overall stage presence. Rob Gal does an amazing job on guitar and with his pedals creating what comes off like multiple layers of sound. They have fun with one another, crack jokes, mess around and put off a good time vibe that would make any show exciting. They play an indie pop sound infused with funky riffs and bass lines that would drive any dance floor. Many of thier songs pull from 80s dance pop that reminds you at times of Madonna, but its always counter balanced with powerful and bluesy, dance floor guitar riffs. Courtney King on vocals is nothing short of darling and her voice matches the inspired sound with unrivaled mastery…topping off the songs with a seraphic and ladylike, sophisticated punk sound in the tradition of Blondie, and um…Heart’s Barracuda comes to mind…gotta love it.
Sit back and join us for a while…or listen while you do something else…we don’t care…but these folks deserve a listen…

Ricer was equally amazing but on a different plane. They play a manic, bipolar rock sound that jumps from wave to wave riding that border of surf inspired and shoegaze rock with a grungy punk attitude. You wouldn’t quickly assume that such a grand sound comes from a 3 piece but Ricer is a band that sounds larger than themselves. This was Billy Duncan’s first show with the band and it came off pristine. During one epic breakdown, Chris from the band Attention System announced that Ricer was too good for the current lighting, I agreed and quickly turned them off…topping off the atmosphere with these 3 shadowy figures twisting and turning the very air. Ricer literally shook the walls…
You’ll be able to find even more videos of Ricer and the Holland Dutch from this show at our youtube channel very soon.
