Review by David Ranew
The First Stone’s second album “Also That” is a musical melodrama that left me feeling like I may have heard it all before sometime in the 90s on pop radio. It is a well produced album that has a clear sound and consistent melody with mature lyrics that echo a working class bitch session. It can be a bit whiny at times and left me with the taste of unexcitement in my mouth and with a hint of Hootie and the Blowfish and a dash of Counting Crows that is definitely best described as Adult Contemporary. I give it up to the guys at First Stone for their excellent musical talent, but was left feeling a bit ripped off when the band itself described their sound as “indie-folk-rock infused with funk”. Our favorite bit of the album: the ending.
1 out of 4 stars.
