ATTENTION SYSTEM
We made it out to the show recently Lenny’s. As any Attention System show goes, it was an amazing time. Attention System was on point; they sounded great. It was my second time seeing them and this time around was even more impressive. Not to mention they spent the time off stage talking up the bands they were playing with. Thats something I can really respect. Attention System plays electronic, post punk rock on a level that I don’t see much in Atlanta. Their shows are exciting, their stage presence is unrivaled; but I have to say I was intrigued by the Greater Vavoom, their stage presence is amazing, just on a different plane. Attention System always provides solid performance and between the dancing and the strobe lights, its always party.
SIBERIA MY SWEET
This was my second time seeing Siberia My Sweet as well. They were a five piece back when I saw them in April and now their down to an all girl threesome. They didn’t have a drummer but it sounded amazing none the less. Without taking away from Luci Harrel on guitar and Erin Sellers on Keys, Kelly Andrews on vocals (and guitar) is absolutely profound. She has a voice that carries a tune with the likes of Shirley Mason of Garbage and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Her voice resonates and she is nothing less than seductive when singing on stage. Luci Harrel is the perfect match on guitar and Erin and keys plays her oh so crucial role very well for these dark queens of New Wave.
THE GREATER VAVOOM
All I can say is WOW. I have not seen such a funky fun performance in Atlanta as I had with The Greater Vavoom. There was buzz going around the audience that they were a fun band with a prince type thing going for them. That description is not far off. They do site Prince first on their list of influences on myspace. Thats cool with me though. I mean, who doesn’t like Prince, or at least the suave, pussy magnet bad ass that he portrays. The experience was phenomenal. Shangri-la on vocals is an absolute blast with his Prince-esque dance moves and Monkeyboy and Patrick Kelly on the guitars, and James Hall on Keys bring forth the electric funk with a confidence and boldness that hits you in the face. I heard this was their first time with a live drummer, whose name I don’t recall, and the show went off flawless, so I’m guessing it he did well.
Slow Earth
I had heard good things about Slow Earth all night and they matched the hype. ; Zach Solem brings a tricky style of a new wave, electro, sometimes more punk and hip hip method to the melodies…he reminded me of an electro Mike Patton, sometimes sounding a little quirky, good, but quirky. They have a strong synth and computer presence that really makes their sound unique. Their version of electro rock is at certain times dark but manages to stay upbeat overall. I would recommend you see them live when you can.
