press release: “For their second EP entitled Hate Being Alone – Chicago’s soulful Folk/Americana 7-piece Paul Moody and the Revelators teamed up with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Nathaniel Rateliff, Iron and Wine) for a well-rounded 3 song EP that explores relationships and the heart-wrenching inconvenience love can afflict on us. Mixing elements of folk, soul and Americana, with stellar musicianship and carefully crafted arrangements; Hate Being Alone showcases the growing depth and cohesiveness of one of Chicago’s most exciting up and coming bands. Paul Moody and the Revelators drew on a range of musical influences for Hate Being Alone – from 60’s soul and folk, to contemporary artists such as The Barr Brothers, Typhoon, Dawes, Sufjan Stevens, Fiona Apple, Phoebe Bridgers and more.”
BIO: “Like everyone else – Paul Moody had heard the story of Bon Iver retreating into the woods to make For Emma, Forever Ago. Inspired by the story, and fueled by the frustration of years of poorly attended shows and demo ideas that were going nowhere – He took his guitar, a single mic, an old MacBook, and heading up to his family’s cabin in Michigan to make his debut album….
Paul then proceeded to turn his Bon Iver story into an amphetamine fueled nightmare. He found the time between panic attacks to make experimental folk music no one in their right mind would ever want to listen to. As the days went on, the music and his condition worsened. The album was never made, and the cabin experiment concluded with Moody spending two nights in the psychiatric ward of a Chicago hospital. That is when Paul Moody decided he needed a little help from his friends – Freshly sober and deeply humbled – he reached out to some of the best musicians he knew, and formed Paul Moody and the Revelators.
Paul Moody’s music is steeped in the rich roots of American music, while simultaneously having a perspective and feel that could only exist in today’s culture and society. While Moody is clearly an avid listener and student of folk and roots music, he also has a fearless and irreverent songwriting voice, the result is music that is familiar yet fiercely original.
Recorded at Minbal studios with songwriter and sound engineer Luke Otwell, The new EP finds Moody with the most talented and cohesive group he has played with, and the result is the best music he has released. The Island, features Paul Moody on guitar and vocals, Sam Cantor on Electric Guitar and vocals, Aaron Sweatt on bass, Collin O’Brien on drums, Taylor Streiff on Keys, Parris Fleming on Trumpet, and Xavier Galdon on Trombone.”
