Interview with Myk G ‘Mr. 16 Bars’ – playing the Beatlanta House this Saturday 5/24/14

BeAtlanta: How did you get the name Myk G?

Myk G: My name actually came from my birth name Mykel Griffin. I have gone through three names- (Kid Dynamyte, TYP, DJ MYK) as an artist of music before sticking with Myk G…

B: What kind of music would you describe yourself as writing?

MG: I write music for tomorrow, rather for the streets, clubs or just riding w/ the family you can find something that is appealing to all ages..

B: What groups influenced you to write?

MG:The groups that influenced me to write are Outkast, UGK, MJG and 8 Ball, NWA. The individual that influenced me to write is Mystikal, my cousin.

B: Have you been in any other groups or collaborated with any other groups?

MG: The group that I came into was T.Y.P. After breaking off from that group, Some of the people that I have collaborated with are Yung Joc, Mike Jones, Magno, Blaze the producer, Champ da Grate, Gorilla Zoe and Thyra, just to name a few.

B: Where have you played recently, where do you like to play in Atlanta?

MG: Some of the places that I have played at are Deja Vu 2, Lounge Center 92, Magic City, Foxy Lady, Onyx,Club Memories in Mississippi. I do not really have a specific place, because I enjoy all of them. If i had to choose just one then it would be Deja Vu 2 with Tokars DJs and DJ Cristyle 404.

B: Do you have any CDs or records out?

MG: I dropped my first CD in 2005, Pinky and the Brain. Followed by Who Framed TYP in 2006, Half Man Half Amazing in 2010.

B: What inspires the lyrics?

MG: Life, just going day to day, seeing things and dealing w/ people..

B: What kind of equipment do you use?

MG: Protools, Reasons, Akia, Triton.

B: What is your next step in the Atlanta music scene?

MG: Write, Record, Promote, Perform..

B: Anything you want to say to the fans?

MG: Thank you for everyone that has supported me and my music along the way. Without my fans, I would not be in the spot that I am in with my music and things like this would not be possible. I really appreciate everyone along this journey. I love all of ya’ll.

BA: Anyone you want to shout out?

MG: I don’t want to throw names out there cause i don’t want to forget anyone… I do want to say thanks to my team, COA Musiq Group/ Management and i love y’all shawty frfr… I also want to give a major salute to my brother Champ Da Grate for everything he has done for me on my move back to Atlanta area.
