I”m a little late on this review but hey…
The Strong Beer Festival was in November 2013 – at the Wrecking Bar Brewpub in Little Five Points.
The Strong Beer Festival was phenominal beer wise. It featured some of the best, hard to find regional beers…strong beers. All beers featured at the festival were 8% ABV or higher. The venue, The Wrecking Bar Brewpub on Moreland Avenue in Little Five Points, was the right pick as well. Although it was quite packed in some of the areas at times, it provided 5 different areas to taste beers, including the brew area and tasting room for the Wrecking Brewpub, and a patio area.
The one drawback of the festival was the ‘beer for a ticket’. Upon entry, you were given (16 if I remember right) tickets that bought you your taste of beers. They did not advertise that when buying tickets for the festival. So you paid full price for the festival thinking it was unlimited tastings but it wasn’t. I somewhat understand the logic; that being that you don’t want to give folks too many tastes of STRONG beers, but they should have advertised that better when buying tickets. Me and David did wind up purchasing more tickets at $1 a piece. We purchased 10 more tastings each…adding another $10 each to our ticket prices, unexpectedly…but damn was it good, so who carest right?
All in all this was a very successful festival and featured many beers I had not tried…which in my opinion is a top priority for any beer festival I go to. I hope they have the festival in 2014 as I will definitely attend again.
