So, the Allegreen Festival came and went. I won’t go into too much detail about the festival except to say that it was highly unorganized and unprepared for any sort of major crowd. When we arrived there was only confusion. We didn’t know we had to pay extra to camp as they didn’t say that on the website anywhere. Not to mention, they didn’t have any instructions up until I actually asked them for details a week before the show…yes, I was responisble for the “need to know” section at allegreen.com. The folks taking our money to camp didn’t even know where we were supposed to go and had absolutely no information on the festival itself. See, they work the atv rental that is there year round and were not informed about the festival details. Anyway, the festival was still fun…camping and music always go together in my mind. There just wasn’t very many people there. The first show we went to see had 2 people in the crowd and there sound kept going out…super loud metal band – the festival wasn’t prepared for there power. They eventually got over that though and a few more folks showed. I don’t want to bash the fest too much as I hope it comes back and continues to grow. It has potential. I will say that they need to separate the ATV rental ‘place’ from the festival. They had two people checking in campers – so, lets say 1000 people showed up Friday night, it would have taken hours to check everyone in. I love music festivals…there is actually nowhere I’d rather be. I love the festival atmosphere and everything about it. However, the folks organizing Allegreen need to do a much better job organizing and getting the word out. I don’t think I saw the festival advertised on a single blog, and Atlanta has many. I also didn’t even hear about the festival until 2 weeks before, and I pay attention to a ton of music happenings in the ATL. So, Allegreen, hit us up next year.
With that said, Tom P. was a highlight of the entire weekend (I left Sunday morning out of unexcitement, though I’m sorry I missed the Supervillains). There were some good bands and I don’t fault the bands for the lack of organization. All in all, I’m glad I went. If you love to camp and you love music then camping festivals are the shit. The videos are a little dark but still awesome. We’ll have more videos from the Allegreen festival soon…
